Areas of Specialization
Progress with Physical Therapy care requires teamwork between therapist, client, and their medical specialists.
- Manual Therapy Care
- Spinal Dysfunction
- Sports Physical Therapy
- TMJ (Cervical-mandibular Dysfunction)
- Sports Specific Progressions
Manual Therapy Care:
Dan has advanced training in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy. This specialization involves assessment of a client's problems involving muscle and joint dysfunctions. The assessment includes evaluating joint motions, muscle strength and flexibility, posture, movement patterns, balance and functional capabilities. Specific manual (hands-on) techniques can be used in addition to Physical Therapy modalities and appropriate exercise progressions.
Spinal Dysfunction:
Trained with the staff of the Atlanta Back Clinic, a specialized program previous available in Atlanta provided Dan with exceptional training. While working at this facility he provided care for spinal injuries sustained by Atlanta Falcon's players. Manual Therapy techniques, specific exercise progressions and instructions to reduce spinal stress are part of Dan's daily treatment routines.
Sports Physical Therapy:
Treatment for sports injuries has been a specialty of Dan's care for over 30 years. He has provided care for professional athletes, college teams, high school participants and weekend warriors of various sports. He has been a frequent lecturer to PGA Professionals at the PGA Learning Center and Physical Therapists working with golfers.
Specific controlled motion patterns, required in sports, are trained with the use of the Dynamic Balance System-DBS (www.sportsbalance.com) providing immediate kinesthetic, audio and visual feedback.
TMJ (Cervical-mandibular Dysfunction):
Appropriate care for this condition requires coordinated care between the Physical Therapist and dental professionals. The Physical Therapy evaluation of facial pain related to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) includes assessment of specific joint mechanics and the associated muscles of the face, neck and upper thoracic region. Individualized treatment approaches and home exercises are often very helpful in reducing the severity of this condition.

Sports Specific Progressions:
Each sport has it's own physical requirements. Understanding the optimal strength, flexibility, aerobic conditioning and balance requirements helps Dan progress clients back to optimal performance.
Golf-Specific Training Program at PGA National:
Dan works with the golf professionals and personal training staff (directed by Ken Macdonald, CSCS, GFS) at PGA National in a unique program of fitness testing, Dynamic Balance System-DBS testing, and progressive exercises and manual techniques to assist individuals to improve their golf performance.
Functional Balance Training:
Specificity of training during functional activities is just as important as for our Sports Medicine progression for athletes. Clients need training in specific exercises and manual therapy techniques frequently assist in this progression.
The Dynamic Balance System-DBS assists in learning the "feel" of properly controlled body motion of a stable base of support.
